Home Business Scams and How to Avoid Them

You’ve heard their highly tempting proposition at least once: with this job or business, you’ll make money fast and in large amounts, without having to work as hard as you’re working now, and in the comfort of your own home. But are such offers to be trusted? How can you tell if a home business offer is fake or for real? Here are a few of the most common business scams you should avoid:

The Classic “Envelope Stuffing” Scam

Perhaps the most infamous of all home-based business scams, this one requires you to send a small fee to a company who will send you a specific number of envelopes to stuff. You are promised to be paid a fee for every envelope that you stuff, but more often than not, the money never comes, and instead of earning, you’ve actually lost money because of the fee you initially paid the company.

The “Call 1-900-” Scam

Advertisements for this scam will tell you to call a 1-900 number in order to obtain more information on a home-business offer or a work-at-home job. But 1-900 numbers, unlike 1-800 ones, are not toll fee and require a fee, so you end up losing money by just making the call. And the information they promised? Often such information is next to trivial, and totally useless.

The Scam that Turns You into a Scammer

With this one, you’ll usually receive an email promising you lots of earnings by just using your computer at home to send out some emails. All you have to do is send them a small fee to receive some instructions.

What you get for the fee you paid them are instructions on how you can send the same email you received to other addresses. And the payback you get? Non-existent.

Some Tips on How You Can Avoid Home-Business Scams

1. If it seems too good to be true, chances are, it probably is. If a home business idea or work-at-home-job offers you huge amounts of money for doing next to nothing, chances are, what you’ll actually get in return is next to nothing or worse, you would’ve lost money as well.

2. Never pay a company for the chance to work. Remember, you’re looking for a job home-based business because you want to be paid, not the other way around.

3. If it’s spam, it’s most likely a scam. There’s only one thing to do with spam, and that’s hit delete.

A home-based business can be a very lucrative and fulfilling venture, but make sure that you’re starting one that’s legitimate and with actual worth. Otherwise, you’ll realize that you’ve left your job only to be taken advantage of.

Bubble Economy And Defaulting Real Estate Loans

Major reason for default risk on commercial real estate loans is a bubble economy. An often-quoted definition of “bubble” is the one given by Stiglitz as follows: ” If the reason for the price is high today is only because investors believe that the selling price will be higher tomorrow – when “fundamental” factors do not seem to justify such a price – then a bubble exists”.

Here Are 2 Common Internet Scams and How To Avoid Them

As the internet continues to grow and offer new and exciting opportunities to make money there is an ever increasing presence of internet scams popping up all over the place. These scams prey on good people who many times are desperately in need of money and are willing to believe almost anything.

The reason for this is they want to believe in something that will make their lives better. Another comon method of internet scammers is to email you and try and get personal information from you. Let’s take a look at 2 common ways you can be scammed both online and offline.

1. MLM scams. This is an industry that has been and continues to be full of scammers. That does not mean the whole industry is nothing but a bunch of scammers, but you need to be careful about what you join and how much you pay to get started with your own mlm business. Just because your best friend or Uncle Joe says this is going to be great does not mean it really is.

Before joining a mlm company you want to do your due diligence. This means doing a thorough background check on them. How long have they been in business. Call your local Better Business Bureau. Talk to people who work for them. Even better go to the local yellow pages of several cities and find the phone numbers of distributors in that city. Call them and ask for the good, the bad and the ugly of this company.

The longer a mlm company has been in business the more stable they are. On the internet anyone can build a website in 1 day and be in business. Be cautious about joining anything new especially if they want a lot of your money up front.

2. The most common internet scam today is a new version of the IRS Audit Scam. It works like this.

You receive an official-looking email, that lead you to believe it is from the IRS. The email states that the IRS is auditing you and that you must complete and return the attached questionnaire. If you do not respond within 48 hours, the message says, you will face penalties and interest. It asks for personal information including your social security number and bank accounts.

Another version of the IRS audit scam send you an email with a link in it. This link leads to a fake IRS website where you are asked to enter your personal information.

If you get an email with the words “IRS-Audit” you may as well delete it. Because people see the word audit they get scared and lose their sensibility. This is true for many internet scams. Trust your judgement before giving out any personal information or before joining any money making program that asks for money from you up front.

Home Business Scam: Watch Out for These Latest Scams!

Home Business Scam: Watch Out for These Latest Scams!

Work at home business scams are becoming more prevalent these days because of the increased popularity of home based jobs. It is sad to see people falling into the trap to such Cons and usually these Cons are pointed at working from home moms, the elderly and also disabled people. If you are looking for a work at home career, then you must know how to determine these scams and avoid becoming a victim.

Here are some examples of some work at home business scams:

Scam #1: Envelope Stuffing
This is the classic con which many of us has come across at least once in the past. You see an advertisement or a junk mail announcing that you can gain – for every envelope you stuff. Sounds like you can earn money easily, right?? Think again. Most of the time, you need to pay a start-up fee of somewhere or more to join the envelope stuffing program. When you receive the start-up package, you realize that the instruction tells you to spread the word about this envelope stuffing business, then you will get paid. The trick is that they want you to help in earning the start-up fees by sending out the same junk mail you received in the first place. The trick is to get your start-up fee (your money!) first before you realize how this home based business scam really works.

Scam #2 : Processing Medical Bills
This home business scam requires you to pay anywhere from 0 to 0 for the tools you need to start your own medical billing service at home. They will promise you some advanced billing software as well as a list of would be clients in your neighborhood. Don’t you think that most medical institutions would process their own medical bills or outsource the processing to a legitimate company, instead of individuals with no experience or knowledge whatsoever? When the package arrives (if it ever does!), you will find that the software is not up-to-date or does not work at all and the list of customers is just plain wrong. Chances are you will never be able to get a refund..

Scam #3 : Craft Assembly
In this home based business scam, you are told you will be given an extremely huge amount of money for every toy, doll, jewelry or other craft item you assemble at home. In order to start, first you are required to pay a start up fee to receive a starter pack which includes instructions and parts. When you are done assembling the product, you are told by the company that they do not meet their specifications therefore you will not get paid for it. Actually you will never be able to reach their expectations because the scam gets money by selling the starter packs. At the end of the day, you are left with a bunch of unwanted products cluttering up your home.

Scam #4 : Data Entry
There are numerous advertisements and postings for data entry opportunities on the Internet and even on online employment sites. All you need to do is just pay to purchase a training package and they would send you all the training materials. You should also see that the job scope is normally very blurry and no prior experience is required. The “job description” is usually that you will need to mail out advertisements and brochures similar to the one you received to other unsuspecting victims. Once they pay up the , then you will get half of the money and the person who recruited you will receive half as well.

Scam #5 : Email Processing
This scam is actually similar to the classic envelope stuffing scam stated above. Typically you will be required to pay an upfront fee of about let’s say .95 to receive an instruction manual and an email distribution list. The instructions will inform you how to process the emails and you will supposedly get about for each email processed! Seems like the ideal work at home opportunity, doesn’t it?? Wrong! The instructions they send you are actually on how to spam other people’s emails with the same advertisement which motivated you to pay .95 in the first place. Then when another unsuspecting person (like yourself) takes the bait and pays .95, the spam company will (maybe) pay you your .

Ask yourself, is that the kind of work at home job you want to invest your precious time doing? Is it ethical? Is it legal? You are actually associating yourself with a con if you join such work at home business scams, which disguise themselves as genuine opportunities. One thing working from home moms should know is that there is no shortcut to success. Yes, sometimes with luck you can get there speedier than others but most of the time, it takes lots of effort and then some.

Typical Online Business Scams And How To Avoid Them

Typical Online Business Scams And How To Avoid Them

One of the problems with looking for business ideas online is that you are going to run into a lot of typical online business scams. These are directed at those who are desperate to pull in more money, particularly moms who want to stay working at home and those who have just lost their jobs.

Almost all of these are based around making you so curious that you simply have to purchase their guide or pay for access to their inner circle forum to find out exactly how to earn thousands a month. It’s very tempting and many people fall for it. However, in most cases, these are just too good to be true.

The best way to avoid being sucked into a fake advertisement and losing your money is to simply do some research. When you come across a business opportunity that seems like it might not be as good as it sounds, you might want to consider looking at the Better Business Bureau to find out if the company is legit.

Some signs that a potential opportunity to make money isn’t real include outrageous claims of how much you can make. If the numbers aren’t reasonable, be very cautious. For example, if the site says that it will help you earn an extra ten grand a month, you should be suspicious.

Many of these ads will be quite vague. They make great promises, but give you no real clue as to how they actually do it. That’s a big warning sign right there. Watch out for these, since they usually promote methods that either require more money to get into or they aren’t something that anyone can do.

There are a lot of scammers out there, so you need to avoid them. Pay attention, avoid things that sound iffy and look into starting your own business without the potential problems. Typical online business scams will make it difficult to find out any real information ahead of time, so watch for that.

Don’t Fall for These Home Business Scams

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Don’t Fall for These Home Business Scams

When you surf the internet you will find plenty of advertisements and offers for starting your own home business. A lot of unsuspecting people spot what they think is a sound business opportunity but end up losing a lot of money. Unfortunately, it is easy to be misled by these offers, so the income seeker has to be very cautious.

Home-Based Business Scam Targets
With many of these businesses the only money earned is the money that the scammers take from unwary opportunity seekers. These scams are aimed at people who want to make money working from home. Many are aimed at mothers with young children who want to do something to improve the family financial situation but who also want to be home for their children. These scams also play on the psychology of people who are really desperate to pay their bills and are having problems doing so.

Make Money Fast Schemes
Three of the most common work from home scams are craft assembly, medical billing and email processing.

In craft assembly you pay up front for a starter kit. When the completed projects are sent back, you are told by the company that your work does not meet their standards. Nothing will ever meet the standards. The whole operation is set up to make money selling the kits (and the promise of income to people who desperately need it).

In medical billing you pay a fee for a list of clients in your area and billing software. Medical clinics rarely if ever outsource their billing to individuals. The work is normally done internally or outsourced to medical billing firms. Trying to get a refund on the money you have paid up front is next to impossible.

In email processing the scammers try to involve you in their scam. They get you to pay up front for the privilege of participating, and then you send the same emails out to others in the hope of taking their money. This has become a lucrative (for the scammers) home business scam.

Pyramid Schemes
A pyramid scheme involves recruiting people to invest money with the promise that your money will be returned many times over (for example, invest 0 and get 00 back). In this scam you invest money and then you recruit others to invest money. Pyramid schemes are illegal in most places but they are still very common. Pyramid schemes are very similar to the email processing scam. What happens is that a very few people, those at the top of the pyramid, make money while those at the bottom never see any return on their investment. People who get into the scheme early are paid from money collected from participants who get in later. Eventually, the whole scheme collapses.

Don’t Give Your Money Away
Be wary of work from home offers that require you to put up a cash deposit for the privilege of doing the work. Avoid pyramid type schemes where you pay money to someone who promises that you will recover your money many times over just by participating. Home business scams have always been with us, but with the proliferation of these scams on the Internet, it is much easier to rip off unsuspecting victims. Be careful. If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Google Making Money Scams, Do They Exist?

Google Making Money Scams, Do They Exist?

Google is the largest search engine on the web receiving well over 200 million visits each day. As a result, it is easy for people to trust in their ability to earn money with Google. I have heard a lot about ways you can make money with Google lately but sometimes its hard to see if these are just more Google making money scams or real life opportunities. Just think how many Google making money scams are out there taking your hard earned money?

Website owners the world over are always trying to find ways to help their websites achieve a higher ranking in the search engine results. My guess is that you are one of those owners or at least are looking to be one.

#1 Google Making Money “Scam” is Google Adwords!

Adwords was created as a way for businesses to advertise products and services to a targeted audience. Google Adwords can guarantee instant traffic because your ad will be up and running immediately. If you have ever seen the “Sponsored Links” section of a Google Search, these are ads people make using Google Adwords. Whenever a particular keyword is searched on, these relevant links appear in a separate section which gives exposure to the sites listed. The main reason people see this as a Google money making scam is because they personally have not seen a high return on investment with it. Usually, this happens when the ads they create do not link to irrelevant pages, are not effective for the keywords they choose, are not eye catching, or are just down right crappy.

To get started with Adwords, you need to log-in (obviously) and create an ad group. This involves designing the ad, selecting keywords and figuring out the maximum cost per click that you are willing to spend for each keyword. But, the most important step in creating a successful Adwords campaign is selecting a title tag that will catch the attention of your target audience by making sure it is attractive and catchy.

For example “Learn how to Make 67 in One Day” is much more effective than “Learn How to Make Money”

Also, you should describe the website clearly in the ad so the audience knows what you are offering.

Google Adwords is not another Google making money scam and is actually a very good strategy to get your site maximum exposure.

#2 Google Making Money Scam Google Adsense!

If you have your own website or blog chances are good that you have heard of Google Adsense before. And if your website is rich in great contents and you want to earn more profit, why not get into the Google Adsense program as well?

With Adsense, the webmaster places a code on his website and Google then places ads on the site that are targeted to specific keywords used on that page. By putting the Adsense code on your page, you earn money when a visitor clicks on your ad, much the same as pay-per-click. Also, the Google Adsense program provides webmasters with a tracking tool that allows you to monitor the earnings you actually get from a certain ad. So it seems that this is another one of those things that is not really a Google money making scam after all. The only reason somebody may think otherwise is if they are struggling to get clicks on their ads, usually this can be taken care of by getting an increase your site traffic.
